purpose: For the purpose of informing Torontonians of an excellent daily local newspaper. As well as to review Metro's condensed content.
As I make my way down the stairs of the subway station, I am reminded by the majority of hands holding their own copy of the Metro newspaper to also pick up a copy of my own. I look at the last few copies on the stand and quickly grab my own. Looking at the front page, my eyes are drawn to the emphasis on the cover; the talked about story that is making news. I am also pleased with the large visual on the front page that is relating to the story, keeping me interested. As my eyes swift through the front page, I am informed by the short blurbs in the side columns of other important headlines, including entertainment, sports, weather and more. With a few advertisements placed here and there, I turn the page of what seems so far to qualify to be a highly informable newspaper.
Metro, which first launched in Toronto, is now published in Canada's top markets. From coast-to coast, there are millions of adults who are reading Metro every day. It's extensive local news pages provides readers with a local appeal, making many Torontonians pick up a copy on a daily basis. What makes Metro so different from the rest of newspapers, you may ask? Well, it has redefined what one would call a 'traditional newspaper' by creating an exciting and appealing variety of mediums that resembles the structure of a magazine. It has a simple, organized yet appealing layout to it. This daily newspaper features top stories not only locally but as well in world news, health, business, entertainment, sports, editorials, life, travel along with other short quirps at the top, sides and bottom of the pages. Although they provide information from all of these mentioned areas, they still manage to condense the information while maintaining it's importance.
In terms of content, Metro is not like other newspapers as such with the Toronto Star that fills the pages with loads amounts of content and continues along with what feels like a series of the Twilight novels. It maintains to be short yet informative and summative. It's great for those busy working adults, who just want to have news at their fingertips, but don't want to do extensive amounts of reading. The text of the newspaper is highly understandable for audiences 18-30 and up. The daily newspaper also includes the day's list of TV shows as well as a weekend TV guide, which most readers don't find very common in other newspapers. It also manages to be grammar and spelling error free, as well as uses a majority of informal writing, making it easier for the intended audience to read and process.
Overall, Metro is an excellent read for busy working adults as well as for teens who are interested to know what's making news. It is the type of newspaper that is perfect for Toronto readers as it gives you a majority of local news and happenings, while still adding more for it's readers. The popular newspaper keeps the amount of pages short, yet keeps the content highly reliable and informative on a daily basis. It uses appealing visuals to maintain interest and refrain from boredom. Metro gives Toronto readers what they want.

While most sites may be limited to having news from one city or area, ctv.ca bring news from all around Canada extending to the world. The site also maintains visual satisfaction to the audience. Although there is a heavy amount of text throughout, it does not detract from the site. After all, one would expect that the majority of a news site should be heavy with text. The site uses blues, blacks greys and some reds. This conveys seriousness, rather than if they had used yellows, oranges, pinks, it would make the site seem more like for kids and not very formal. They as well stick with their CTV colours which are red, blue and green at the top. It is definitely not one to be cluttered with too much, it is very spread out and organized into columns which is therefore pleasing to one's eye. It is also quite easy to navigate through. Clicking on the weather link, will give you the weather link, while clicking on a news story, will give you that news story and nothing else. The site also uses headings for better organization. In terms of layout and design, the site definitely does not have one thing that stands out glaring to audiences, it maintains simplicity throughout.

NO BREAK FROM PRISON BREAK!
audience;18-34
purpose: if you want drama then this review will prove why the show Prison Break is worth the watch. It's purpose is is also include what the show is about for audiences to take a look at the show themselves and see what all the hype is all about.
A show that devises complex yet compelling plans does not only draw audiences into this series, but as well manages to maintain suspense and intrigue throughout and this is just what Prison Break presents to it's audience.
Prison Break is an original American drama television series created by Paul Scheuring which premiered on Fox in 2005. The popular series is the story of two brothers Lincoln and Michael. Lincoln who was sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit is rescued by his genius brother's plan to escape prison. Throughout the seasons key characters come into play while being on the run with the two brothers. Later on Michael and Lincoln search for answers to questions they need answers too, as well as their freedom. They are faced with the people who are responsible for the unjust in their lives, The Company. Leading into it's forth and final season, the brothers face a shocking revelation. Meanwhile the head of the company , General Krantz is after the world revolutionary device, Scylla in which he convinces Lincoln and his team to work for him in exchange for their freedom as well as get rid of a possible threat to Michael's life. However Michael finds himself at an opposite side from his brother as his goal is to also find Scylla and take down the company that destroyed their lives. Lincoln however does not want to do this, and thinks they should just get Scylla back and end it there. The brothers both have the goal of getting their freedom, however now being at the last three episodes, what other revelations come to light? What or who will get in their way of their long awaited freedom?
The show is one that grabs your attention from the first scene to it's surprising cliffhanger ending. By not only having heartpumping drama but also convincing performances, it proves itself as a fully enjoyable drama with loads of edge of the seat suspense. Throughout, Prison Break explores common themes such as justice, crime, freedom and adds a touch of love. The sweet uniting love of Michael and Sara takes you away from the bloodshed and the heart racing suspense. The introduction of new faces in the story has you questioning that character and just what they have up their sleeves. In a setting of normality, where the sun is always shining and people are going about with their freedom, contrasts the darkness and confinement in the brother's lives. The progression of a series of unfortunate events, conflict between each character, and the emotional roller coaster unite into a full on drama/thriller drama.
The captivating topic in each episode is no doubt having the main character's always 'being on the run'. Due to the show containing adult content including violence, course language sexual and drug references, the show's target audience would be between the ages of 18-34. If you are a sucker for action, drama, suspense then Prison Break would definitely appeal to you.
Each character plays their part with the goal to convince, and by the end of each episode they end up exceedingly convincing. The character of Michael Scofield grows on the women as he has all of likes of 'the perfect man', making female audiences root for him. The young actor takes acting to another level as he comes across as very calm but intense. His smart, fast thinking and the devising of his complex plans, captivates the audience and has one asking for more. This is definitely the character that makes the show as good as it is. Lincoln Burrows character is more one that you sympathize with. The show also adds a touch of comedy with the character of T-Bag, who speaks with a southern accent and always makes sarcasm seem so rude yet hilarious at the same time. The character of Sara Tancredi, Michael's love interest is as well convincing and adds the element of her strong feelings and emotions. General Krantz definitely is a character whose evil intentions are so convincing that if you were to see him in real life you would strongly dislike him, just by seeing his mean looking face, which has 'greed' written all over it.
However, hands down most would agree that season one was most certainly the best one. But it would still have your attention now, although not as strongly. On has to have watched all through season one through season four in order to understand the show. Otherwise you will be confused midway as the story takes a complete twist or more like a U-Turn. The storyline is one that is very complex and not one that is understandable right away. It takes convincing actors and explanations from the characters for you to understand. The show gives this to the audience, although not very often which leaves audiences confused. You sometimes wonder, 'why does this guy hate this guy again?' or 'why is this person doing this again?'. This is probably the only thing that one can point out right away while watching. Other than this slight glitch, the show is definitely more than worth a watch, it's worth an all four seasons watch. The introduction of the show began with a very intriguing concept, having said that, just to end with a cliffhanger, the concept in the last three episodes don't get more intriguing than it already is. Take my word, you won't want a break from prison break.

GOSSIP MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND
ages:18-25
Purpose: to show that some articles out there are solely based on gossip with no substantial amount of evidence. As well, this growing infatuation with celebrities is gradually taking over the type of news people are paying attention to.
The growing world of entertainment thrives on gossip. Especially when famous high profiled celebrities like Madonna make the gossip mills turn. This time it's not about adopting another child or a divorce, it's about Madonna falling off a horse which she claims was apparently caused by a photographer startling the horse by jumping out of the bushes to photograph her. On the other hand, photographer Thomas Hinton claims that he was only there to photograph Madonna before and after her accident.
Both the photographer and Madonna's spokesperson, Liz Rosenburg make their arguments, which seems what this article is solely based on; making back and forth arguments. This article neither has solid substantial evidence, nor does it have on the scene eye witnesses, who can prove either side's argument. It's basically a 'he said this' and 'she said this' sort of article. It goes one step further by going off topic about other old Madonna news such as a denied adoption, a divorce and her money issues in the divorce settlement. This alone proves that since they were unable to prove anything about how Madonna fell off her horse, they are are using past proven happenings in Madonna's life to strengthen their already weak article.
There is obviously a bias in the article as it repeatedly reinforces to audiences that this is not the first time that Madonna has fallen off a horse. They are trying to defeat what she is claiming about the photographer being the one to blame for her accident. They do this by saying 'this wasn't Madonna's first', and later on reinforcing past incidents where she fell off a horse numerous times. This therefore will lead audiences to form the opinion that it was Madonna who was not being very careful or experienced. This takes the focus off the photographer who apparently jumped out of the bushes and startled her horse.
Whether Madonna is deliberately blaming the photographer for her accident to take the blame of herself, is yet to still be proven since this article was not capable of doing that with substantial evidence. How and why Madonna fell of her horse seems to be of more interest to audiences rather than actual news worthy events such as ways we can help save our enviornment. I guess money is not the only thing that makes the world go round, it's the world of gossip.

She's Priceless!!
ages 30-50
purpose: For parents to be aware of the extent to which other parents would go to to get money, even if it means giving up their child.
The child stars of the highly acclaimed film, Slumdog Millionaire have had a lot of controversy surrounding them ever since the film started receiving increasing worldwide attention and pulling in the big bucks at the box office. In today's society one would do anything for money, especially if that part of the world was living in poor conditions. However there is a line drawn in the circumstances of how one earns that money. Attempting to sell your own daughter, is definitely a big no in order to get money for yourself. As was reportedly attempted by Slumdog Millionaire child star Rubina Ali's father, Rafiq Quereshi.
Mr. Quesreshi had accepted that he met the man who posed to be a wealthy Arab sheikh. This alone speaks volumes itself. If Quereshi truly was not interested in giving away his daughter for money, then why would he accept to meet the man in the first place? I believe that when Quereshi was questioned about this, he immediately had no other choice than to deny it as he was well aware it would degrade his integrity. It is a well known fact that the child stars of the film did not receive a sufficient amount of money for their part in the acclaimed film, as can be proven by their current living conditions. Quereshi obviously wanted to take advantage of the fact that his family did not make enough money from the millions of dollars that the film got. In order to make up for this, he went to this meeting in hopes of getting an "offer" high enough that would be pleasing. Little did he know it was all a hoax.
By accepting to meet the' Wealthy Arab Sheikh', Quereshi brought it upon himself to have his intentions towards his now famous daughter questioned.

How could such a thing happen?
ages: 15 to 19
purpose: to question the lack of security at this airport which luckily did not result tragically
This article presents itself with quite a lot of substantial evidence as there are quotes from primary sources such as from some of the hostages themselves, who were there to experience such an unfortunate event. By doing this the author of the article reassure it's audience that the article is highly worthy and qualified. The article captures the extent of just how frightful the experience was for these people on the hijacked plane. Therefore, this increases the amount of substantial evidence in the article as well as it's quality.
The author uses a style of writing that is informative but at the same time strives to get a fearful reaction from the audience. The article includes quotes that most audiences would find fearful if they were put in such a situation. For example, "I'm hijacking this plane", as well as,"I mean business, this is a hijacking, sit down, nobody move," these were all fearful quotes from what the passengers has heard from the hijacker, and the author chose to include them to bring across the idea of fear.
After the horrendous, unfortunate event of 9/11, airport security has become much tighter and people have become more aware. So why all of a sudden has this recent hijacking taken place on an airplane. This YAHOO article raises the crucial question of How did this man get pass security? It is also the question that mingles in every one's minds these days. The article specifically states in the introduction that "a lone gunman with "mental challenges" forced his way through security...", clearly this statement alone proves that majority of the blame is to be put on the security at this airport. The word 'forced' which was used basically is saying that the man made his way through, it seemed like there was nothing stopping him. Why is this? To add to this, the man was able to breach security with a gun. At airports I've been to, they are alone suspicious of what's in my water bottle, let alone if i had a gun with me.
Clearly the security at this airport was loose and not tight enough, or at all for that matter. There are many steps of security that this man got through, which resulted in him reaching his destination of the plane itself. There is no way that this man would have gotten through all the security steps, including metal detectors to detect the gun if only the security were doing what they were suppose to be doing; their jobs to protect innocent people. It's hard to believe that such incidents can occur again , especially after 9/11. After such a horrific event where many paid the most precious price of losing their lives, one would think that the security at each airport around the world would ALWAYS have their guard up and check everyone entering onto a plane.
As well, just because Canadian prime minister congratulated the Jamaican prime minister on the "successful resolution" certainly does not mean that everything is fine. Instead Mr. Harper should have been asking 'why?' and 'how?' There definitely is no need in a hijacking situation for congratulations. The responsibility of these peoples lives who were hijacked on this plane was in the responsibility of the security first of all. They have to ensure and double ensure that it is safe. Instead of quickly and happily giving out congratulations, the security should be put under a microscope to determine why these people now have to live with such a horrible experience for the rest of their lives. It would reassure many, as myself to get answers as to why this lack of security, in which the results could have ended up tragically. Do we really need a repeat of 9/11?

I'M THE BEST MAN
A: So, man what's up?
K.W: Oh, nothin much man, same old
A: Cool. You're probably really happy that your latest album is selling so many copies eh?
K.W: Of course I'm happy but it's no surprise that MY album is doing really well.
A:Why do you say that?
K.W:Obviously I'm the best so no doubt my album will also be the best. C'mon man think about it.
A: Oh yeah, that's true. I don't even know why I would ask you that. Sorry, my bad.
K.W: Yeah, it's cool. Don't worry I get that a lot from other people. I'm used to it.
A: What do you mean?
K.W:Oh you know, people are always like why do you think you're the best out there? I had a guy come up to me the other day an he was like ,' you're so self centered'. I was like 'yeah I know, that's because I know I'm the best.'
A: Well, I think you're the best, so don't listen to anyone else. They are all just very jealous. You are the best and no one can take that away from you.
K.W: Yeah, I mean while I'm here making millions and having the number one song on the charts for the past month now, those people are not getting anywhere, so I guess they are jealous.
A: That's right. You're always right Kanye, you know that.
K.W: Yes, I know, how about telling me something I don't already know.
A: There I go again, me and my dumb mouth. Sorry. Here's something you don't already know, you're next album is going to be even better than this one.
K.W: Man, just get out of here, How can you say that? I am the best there is. I know that already man, c'mon. If you're saying that my next album will be better then that means that there is something wrong with this album out there. What? Is it not good enough?
A: No, man I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that. OK listen maybe it is best if I just get out of here now.
K.W: Yeah man, I think that's a good idea. Just remember, I am the best and you better now forget it next time I see you.
A: I won't Kanye, I'm sorry.

A day with Simon Cowell
A: So when are you going to ask Paula out?
S.C: (in British accent) Oh, please don't start that with me again, you know fully damn well that I just want to be a single guy now. Get it through your head for god sakes.
A: OK OK sorry I asked.
S.C: Anyway, are you going to help me choose out something to wear for Tuesday night?
A: What's Tuesday night again?
S.C: Oh you are simply useless. Hello, American Idol, I'm judging remember? You have to help me choose something to wear.
A: Oh yeah, sorry. OK so I was thinking maybe instead of wearing so many black, greys and muted colors, you would go for a more colorful approach, what do you say?
S.C: That's a joke right, I mean you can't be serious. Me and colors, that sounds absolutely ridiculous.
A: OK then, well I guess we will just stick to finding you the usual long sleeved grey shirt.
S.C: Thank you
A: (picks up black shirt) OK here try this one on.
S.C: Not unless, you're trying to make me look like one of those overweight contestants on American Idol. And please don't try to make me look like on of those drunk karaoke singers.
A: (shows another shirt) How about this one?
S.C:Truthfully, that's absolutely horrible.
A: (looking over at entrance) Hey, isn't that Sanjaya who just walked in the entrance? Look over there?
S.C: Oh great just what I need right now.
A: How cool would it be if he was on the next season?
S.C: You can't be serious. I won't be able to put myself through another season of his corny, horrible, dreadful voice. It's an absolutely 100% categorical no.The only decent thing about that guy's performances was the end.
A: OK then, I'll make sure to pass that message to him.
S.C: Gosh, please do. He even looks absolutely horrendous.
A: Anyway, is there anything else you need besides a new shirt?
S.C: Oh yes, I need a bottle of Aspirin.
A: Why?
S.C: What a stupid question. After being put through all of those irritating 'boo's' and unnecessary screams for horrifying singers, by the end of the show I definitely need an Aspirin.
A: Oh, I never knew that, you always look so calm.
S.C: I think you need to get your eyes checked, because I'm always annoyed at the noise of that crowd.
A: (looks at Simon's right) Hey check out those blond triplets over there.
S.C: Oh, please they look like 3 overweight Jessica Simpson's.
A: You'll never change will you?
S.C: What a ridiculous question.
S.C: (in British accent) Oh, please don't start that with me again, you know fully damn well that I just want to be a single guy now. Get it through your head for god sakes.

He's Too Old!!!
(ages 15-19) (for the purpose to point out to everyone that everything has limits. Don't do something that you know will hurt your significant other)
Everything was going great until my husband decided to do the thing I despised his for. He knows that i don't talk to him for a very long time when he does these stupid things. To think coming to this carnival with him would be fun and we would both forget about how old we're both getting. As usual he is always with that outdated, instant developing, black and white camera of his on his neck. No one even uses those things anymore. Not only does Murphy look stupid with it but people are probably thinking 'what is this old guy doing taking pictures of young women?'
It's a good thing I noticed he was out of my sight when I did. Turning around to see him with that camera fixed on getting a shot at this woman who looked to be 6 times younger than my husband, was disturbing. I put my face right up to the camera and gave an angry, threatening look. He'll know next time not to mess with a face like that. I don't know if he still thinks he's in his 20's. What beautiful young woman will want to look at an old man like Murphy? I do love him, which is why i guess I'm being so overprotective and getting so angry. He belongs to me and only me. That camera of his should only have pictures of me only on it. I know I'm not as attractive as 30 years ago but I'm his wife and can someone blame me for wanting that attention? This is definitely the last time I'm coming to a carnival with Murphy.

All I Can Do Is Wait
This piece is for audience between the ages of 12-18. It's purpose is to write so others can see that a child needs nothing more than a parent's love and guidance. Abandonment is not an option. As well having hope is always essential.
It's so strange that despite being in a bright green highly noticable outfit, one one has even noticed me yet on this hard floor. I guess mabey it's because i'm in a distant from the rest of them. I lie here on this abandoned, silent platform with nothing else to do but to wonder why. I can't tell time, but judging by the transformation of day turning into night, I can tell it's been a while. I am unable to move in this stiff green suit to see my surroundings, all I am able to view is the night sky and the glare of the daylight. I'm keeping my tiny fingers crossed hoping that the sun won't come out and shine directly at me. I'm not even one year old yet, I don't want to go blind. Besides that i really want to look my father in the eye for him to see my pity look ans then see the guilt in his eyes for leaving me here.
I knew he didn't want to take care of me but I didn't know he would go to this extreme of just leaving me lying on the ground in the middle of nowhere. I can't understand what him and my mother argue about, but judging by the way he always points his finger at me while arguing with my mom, I can tell it's probably about me. Even when my mom wants him to babysit me for a few hours, he always has an angry tone and he always yells at me for crying while he watches tv. Is it my fault that as a baby I need my formula every 3 hours? Does he want me to live in a soaking diaper? If that was the case then why wasn't he more careful when spending time with my mom before she made me? I'll never understand the way adult's brains work. I wish I remain a 10 month old baby for the rest of my life. Their lives just look to complicated.
I really hope he feels sorry for the pain he is putting my mom through all now an just decides to tell her where he left me. He looked as if he was at is breaking point when I was so hungary that i just has to continuosly cry to get what i want. I regret it now, i should have just kept this loud mouth shut, mabey he wouldn't have gotten so frustrated and just leave me on a hard wooden ground. He probably went into the grocery store all calm an peaceful without me. Mabey this is all my fault. He didn't even care what he was putting me in to wear while dressing me to go out into public.
I really feel sorry for my poor mother who is probably going ballistic trying to find me. She loves me so much. I hope she finds me soon because it's starting to get really cold out here and it seems by the sky that it's starting to get dark. All I can do now is just wait for her all by myself in this ugly looking pea suit. I hope to mabey hear the footsteps of someone walking onto this deserted platform or mabey hearing the rushing steps of my mothers shoes. I can only wait, because what else can this helpless baby do?
